Charles Dewey was another of the prominent Omahan’s in the city's early years. There is also a street named after him. Dewey was an indefatigable traveller. He was originally from Maine, and also lived in Ohio and Indiana at one point in his life; he was one of the first people to reach Sacramento, California, during the early days of the gold rush, where he went into business. He travelled to Paris during the Franco-Prussian war. In Omaha he was co-owner of the Dewey and Stone Furniture Company. He died in Battle Creek, Michigan, a traveller to the end.
