Frederick Krug was the first major brewer to set up a shop in Omaha, in 1859, founding the Fred Krug Brewing Company. It was very much a family concern, as the photos below show.
Krug Park, a popular local amusement park till it closed down in the late 1930's, (the land it occupied is now an Omaha city park called Gallagher Park) was also named after him. My mother was at Krug Park in 1930, when one of the Big Dipper roller-coaster cars went off the tracks and several of her friends from Technical High School were killed. There were four people killed and 17 injured, and it still holds the record for the worst roller coaster accident in the US. My mother never went near another roller-coaster again.

The Krug marker is at the back of this picture.
This picture of the Krug plot, taken almost 25 years ago, also shows the spectacular view across the river to Iowa. It may not seem like much, but here on the flat prairie any type of elevated view is cause for joy.
