Trinity Church was first organized here in 1856. Several churches were built and outgrown, and one was lost to fire, before the Cathedral was commissioned in 1880. The Right Reverend Robert Harper Clarkson was instrumental in getting the Cathedral going, and it was through his efforts that it was designed and built. He and his wife, Meliora McPherson Clarkson, were honored for their service to the church by being interred in the sarcophagi located in the courtyard of the church. Despite the fact that these are in full public view, it's still a quiet and secluded spot. The building shelters these two in a unique way.
