Christian Sautter owned the land that Laurel Hill is on and initially farmed it, and part of that land was used for a family burial ground. It's one of the oldest occupied places in South Omaha (which in the old days was a separate city), and the Sautter plot is naturally one of the largest. Sautter eventually opened up the cemetery to other burials.
