Jennie Edmundson Hospital was the first hospital in Council Bluffs.  It was named after Jennie Hart Edmundson, the wife of James Edmundson, a local lawyer/real estate/teacher. In 1889 the Women's Christian Association asked him for a loan to expand the fledgling hospital they had begun. He gave them the loan on the condition they name it after his wife. They did, and Jennie Edmundson Hospital was christened.
