John Paulsen was born in Germany, came to America and spent some time in Wisconsin before coming to Omaha in 1857. He owned Rock Springs Dairy, which used to occupy the land where Westlawn-Hillcrest Cemetery is situated today. He was also a State Senator in the late 1900’s. 

The statue that tops his monument is life-size. His coat was sent to Europe for the sculptor to use as a guide, and then the finished statue was sent back to Omaha. The Megeath mausoleum is behind him, in the second photo below.
